Thanks to support of 10.357.416 kroner from Nordea-fonden, we can now invite citizens and tourists to experience the nature and cultural history of Nakskov Fjord. This is happening in the communication project Folket ved Fjorden. Over the next three years, we will develop an exhibition in the Port Building on Honnørkajen, and we will communicate Nakskov Fjord out in the countryside. We are doing this together with volunteer actors in Nakskov and the surrounding area.
We are happy and deeply grateful for Nordea-fonden's support. We are also pleased that Lolland Municipality invited us to collaborate on communicating the history and nature of Nakskov Fjord. We will be running the exhibition in the Harbour Building, and it has always been a dream for us to have a communication location in Nakskov.
In the Harbour Building, guests gain knowledge and new perspectives on Nakskov Fjord. This should motivate them to experience more and go out into the landscape, where they will find educational activities and audio stories at information points in Langø, Albuen and Tårs.
For the next three years, we invite you to extensive activities such as guided tours of the fjord landscape, themes about the area's biodiversity and cultural history, and activity days where participants gain knowledge about local raw materials, fishing and crafts, and learn more about the fjord and its potential.
Our goal is for the project's activities to take place in collaboration with local volunteers, experience actors and municipal services. This is done, among other things, through a museum partnership program, where citizens who are interested are trained and actively involved in our guided tours and events, so that guests encounter local commitment and pride. This can be on nature walks, foraging trips and educational tours with local guides and experts.
We expect that the total offer will be used by 25–30.000 local guests and tourists per year, of which 8.000 will visit the exhibition in the Port Building.
Folket ved Fjorden is being implemented as part of Nakskov 2030, a partnership between Realdania, AP Møller Fonden and Lolland Municipality to develop Nakskov. The partners have allocated a total of 150 million kroner to the initiative. A central part of this development is the renovation of the Port Building and Honnørkajen.
