Public kitchen

The large stove in Pederstrup's kitchen was not only used to prepare food for the lords in the fine living rooms. It was also used to prepare food for the servants, who came to the manor's basement regions from their work in the house, garden and stables to eat their meals in the house's common room.

The community hall was located in one of the towers that existed on the house when it was called a castle. Much has changed since then and neither the towers nor the community hall exist anymore. Therefore, we invite you to the Reventlow Museum instead for a communal meal in the old kitchen. We start in the garden room and the kitchen with stories about the daily lives of the servants and then have an informal dinner here in the heart of the house.

Menu:

Emperor Soup – Beef, herbs, port wine and cayenne pepper
Served with fish balls, croutons and bread

Allergens: celery, lactose and gluten.
A vegetarian alternative is not offered.

The menu for the Folkekökkenet is taken from “Cookbook for Large and Small Households” from 1879 by Charlotte Struve, who was, among other things, housekeeper for the Governor General in Helsinki and restaurateur at “Skovlyst” in Fruens Bøge near Odense.

Emperor's Soup is a bit more refined food than what you would have eaten in the manor's common room on a daily basis. However, it is a stewed dish, which is often what the servants would have eaten. Despite the name, the recipe suggests that Emperor's Soup is more of a stew than a soup, and the ingredients provide an insight into the tastes of the time and the menus of large households.

The ticket price includes a guided tour, dinner and an optional drink, as well as admission to the Reventlow Museum on the day.

Please note: Unless otherwise stated, the event will take place in Danish.
