On the night of March 22, 1851, a tragedy occurred in Stødby on Lolland. Jørgen Johansen's farm burned down, and although his and the other dead bodies were charred, the memory remained. It was very clear that before the fire broke out, they had been brutally murdered. A major investigation was launched, and the notorious Glover gang, which at that time was active in the western and southern parts of the city, was arrested. Lolland became the focus of the investigations. 43 people were subsequently convicted of several crimes and being part of the gang. In a captivating lecture, historian Louise Sebro tells om life on Lolland in the mid-1800th century at the bottom of society. About gangs of poor people, violent policerhair, executions – and about the members of the gang. Were all the convicts really part of a larger conspiracy? Or have posterity Have you taken the Copenhagen police officers' interpretations for granted in a slightly too uncritical way?
