Come spend Christmas at the manor house like in the time of Hans Christian Andersen and Peter Faber in the mid-1800s – a time when Christmas as we know it today really took shape. It was here that we started giving each other gifts, eating gravy and roast instead of klipfisk and barley porridge, the Christmas tree was added and Santa Claus went from being a slightly evil year-round resident to a friendly and seasonal friend of children.
Experience Pederstrup beautifully decorated for Christmas as in the good old days. As the dim twilight of winter descends outside, the smell of Christmas crunch spreads and the candles shine in the living rooms, which are decorated with fir trees, garlands, ribbons and red apples.
At Christmas at the Castle, you can meet the old countess who tells about Christmas traditions, or perhaps you would rather hear the old grandmother read aloud the cozy old Christmas stories.
In the garden hall you can admire the large Christmas tree, as it stood when Count Ferdinand and his young, beautiful wife Benedicte in 1860 perhaps held their first Christmas party at the manor as married couples, and here you can join in dancing around the Christmas tree and singing beautiful Christmas songs and hymns, many of which are the most beloved Christmas classics dating back to the mid-1800th century.
The Christmas tones mingle with the scent of Christmas delicacies, and in the Royal Hall you can enjoy a glass of punch, apple mulled wine, apple slices, Norwegian klejner and delicious Christmas cakes. Don't miss a visit to the housemaid in the cozy basement kitchen, where you can feel the fire roaring in the large wood-burning stove and help decorate Christmas cakes – or perhaps help the housemaid baste the roast.
No Christmas without elves, and at Pederstrup you can meet a genuine elf who can tell many old elf stories. You can also go on an elf hunt around the manor's rooms and learn about how the elf became part of Christmas - and that long before Santa Claus.
End the day with a horse-drawn carriage ride in the park's winter landscape - and we guarantee you'll get in the Christmas spirit!
