New museum moves one step closer

It's no secret. We want a new framework to tell the history of Lolland and Falster. Now we have come a small step closer to fulfilling our dreams. Today Guldborgsund Municipality published its vision plan for Bastebrohuset, prepared by E+N Arkitekter, which is a new cultural city on the harbor in Nykøbing Falster. Here, the plan is for Museum Lolland-Falster to move together with the library, the music and visual arts school and form its own cultural cluster at the end of Bastebrostræde.

The Bastebro house is estimated to be a total of 9.500 square meters spread over two floors, of which Museum Lolland-Falster will make up 4.141 square meters. You can see the vision statement here.

The total budget for the construction is set at DKK 240 million, of which the new Museum Lolland-Falster accounts for just over DKK 100 million. Guldborgsund Municipality has earmarked DKK 20 million for the new museum, and now we have to raise DKK 80 million from foundations and so on.

The vision plan is an important milestone in the efforts to create a new framework for the museum. Guldborgsund Municipality's ambitious vision plan for a completely new district with culture as a focal point helps to open the way to the funds that will help to provide our share. We are very strong, thanks to the support from Guldborgsund Municipality.

Now the vision plan must be adopted by the municipal council. An architectural competition is to be launched, so there is still a long way to go before we can welcome guests to the new Museum Lolland-Falster at the harbor in Nykøbing in a few years.
