Grief and death

From the manor house's high-ceilinged halls draped in velvet to the fellowship feast in the low farmhouse. Whether one was rich or poor - with death came rituals and traditions.

This year you can visit two houses clad in death equipment from the 1800th century. Experience the preparations for the funeral party for the young pregnant wife in Falstergården when you visit the Old Houses in Maribo. See the manor Pederstrup dressed in the equipment of mourning for Countess Reventlow, who died in 1822, when you visit the Reventlow Museum.

Hear about notions of death, afterlife and grief at high and low, and explore the many rituals that were needed to send the dead well on their way.

The exhibitions can be seen at De Gamle Huse and Reventlow-Museet Pederstrup from 3 July 2022 during the museums' opening hours.
