Season opening: Valborg evening

Idyllic farmhouse

Back when almost all Danes were farmers, April 30 – known as Valborgsaften – was one of the most important days of the year.

It marked the change between winter and summer and meant the beginning of something new. The darkness disappeared, the days got longer and new green sprouts came up from the previously so dark and damp soil. It was celebrated with style, partying through the night, lighting bonfires and decorating the village houses and town tree with fresh beech branches and fine ribbons.

Here at the outdoor museum De Gamle Huse, it is still a very important day, as it is the first opening day of the new season. And of course that should be celebrated. So come along and help us mark the beginning of a brand new and unused season.

On arrival you will be given a kit so you can help prepare De Gamle Huse for the 2024 season

Please note: Unless otherwise stated, the event will take place in Danish.
